HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS: Spartans clip Bays for city title

The Claremont Spartans won the latest instalment of their ongoing battle against the Oak Bay Bays, winning the Lower Island AAA boys’ basketball championships on Saturday.
Claremont got double digit efforts from five different players, outscoring Oak Bay 81-59.
Brett Armbrust, 18, Netan Ghai, 17, Desmond Slack, 17, Dominic Ohl, 13, and Carson Withrow, 13, led the Spartans in complete effort.
“Balanced scoring will be a key for us going forward -- it has been our strength this season,” said Spartans’ coach Lucky Walia.
“Similar to our offence, we rely on balance defensively -- we have a number of guys that have genuinely bought in to the team concept and do their best to do their part.”
Mt. Douglas  beat Belmont 96-76 for third.
Claremont, Oak Bay and Mount Douglas qualified for the boy’s AAA Islands at Mount Douglas secondary this week.
Belmont played a challenge game against Ballenas on Tuesday for the final berth.  Reynolds finished fifth, Stelly’s sixth.
City all-stars were Chris LeQuesne and Jordan Fenn from Belmont, Netan Ghai and Dominic Ohl from Claremont, Conor Morgan, Eliot Rowe and Demeko Simons from Mt. Douglas, Drake Downer and Kazutoki Kobayashi from Oak Bay, and Connor Stokkeland form Stelly’s.
